March 1 Board Meeting to be held at Menno Simons School
PRSD Board of Trustees to hold March 1, 2016 regular board meeting at Menno Simons School in Cleardale

February 10, 2016— On March 1, 2016 the board of trustees will hold their regular board meeting at Menno Simons School in the community of Cleardale.
“The board is always looking to engage and connect with our communities and sometimes the distance in our division can really affect that, so by bringing the meeting to the community we hope to make it much more accessible.” says Board Chair Darren Kuester. “It’s a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of school board operations and governance and for the board to hear first-hand from the school community.”
The meeting will begin at 10:00am at Menno Simons School and the board of trustees encourages the public to attend. Kuester adds “The hope is that through this, we can increase the level of awareness and involvement in education and have a positive impact on student success.”
The meeting structure will remain similar to PRSD regular board meetings with the exception of an additional question and answer period beginning at 11:30am where attendees will be invited to ask general questions and engage with the board.
The meeting will begin with a review of the agenda, addressing action items which require decisions and motions to be made, an ‘in-camera’ session where the board discusses personnel and other legal matters in private, policy development, a recap of committee meetings trustees attended, various senior management reports to the board, financial reports, accounts paid and a review of any correspondence addressed to the board.
As always, should the public wish to address the board on a specific educational topic, they can apply to do so by contacting Corporate Secretary Denise Fortier at email@example.com prior to February 23, 2016. Members of the public will be given ten minutes to make their presentation, followed by a five minute question period. This portion is traditionally called a “delegation” and is separate from the question and answer period outlined previously. Delegations will begin at 10:00am.
“Whether you have, or had, a student in the school system, or are a community member, staff, current or former student, or are simply curious about the role of a school trustee, we invite you to join us.” says Kuester.
In the spring of 2015, the board of trustees agreed to pilot hosting two regular board meetings out in the community during the 2015-2016 school year. The first meeting was held at Manning Elementary School in November and the public turnout was very encouraging.
The agenda will be made available to the public on Friday, February 26, 2016 and will be posted on the divisional website at www.prsd.ab.ca on the “Board of Trustees” page.
